Skyrail Hosts Royal Guests
2nd March 2002

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway hosted its first royal guests, Her Majesty the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, on Friday 1st March 2002.

The Queen, in Australia and Tropical North Queensland on an official visit, experienced the spectacular beauty and splendour of the world’s oldest surviving rainforests, gliding just metres above the canopy on Skyrail.

Accompanied on the journey by Skyrail’s chairman and owner operator, George Chapman AO, Her Majesty the Queen travelled from the cableway’s Kuranda Terminal, gliding over the Barron River, past the Barron Falls and over the dense rainforest canopy to Red Peak Station, where the royal couple alighted from the cableway to explore the forest at ground level.

Enjoying an interpretive rainforest boardwalk tour hosted by Skyrail Ranger and respected Elder of the Djabugay tribe, Milton Brim; the Queen learnt more about the fascinating World Heritage listed rainforest before continuing her Skyrail journey to Caravonica Terminal.

The Skyrail experience was warmly received by the royal couple providing them with a unique perspective of one of the region’s top natural attractions.
