Celebrating World Environment Day!

Skyrail News: June 2015

To celebrate World Environment Day, @skyrailcairns along with @tropicalnorthqueensland and @MeetInCairnsGBR will be hosting an Instameet on Friday 5th June. A group of well-known environmentally passionate instagrammers including @islandjems, @adventuremumma, @phlipvids and @travisrecks will meet rangers at Skyrail's Tree Planting area where they will learn more about the rainforest and also, plant some native species to continue the regeneration of the wildlife corridor.

Skyrail and the Skyrail Rainforest Foundation, whose primary objective is to raise and distribute funds to support tropical research and education, are long term supporters of initiatives such as these. "Driving awareness for the protection of the environment, in particular, the spectacular rainforest which surrounds us is an on-going process" said Craig Pocock, Managing Director, Skyrail. "Showcasing the natural beauty of the region and highlighting the need for continual commitment to ensure it is protected for generations to come, is core to our business" he added.

The instagrammers will then have the opportunity to share their photographic talents with a trip on Skyrail's open air Canopy Glider and Diamond View which will give them access to 360 degree panoramic views, as well as the ability to look straight down through the glass floor at the canopy below.

The event is also supported by TTNQ. Tourism Tropical North Queensland Chief Executive Officer Alex de Waal said "Tropical North Queensland's dual World Heritage areas of the Wet Tropics rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef made it the perfect place to celebrate World Environment Day."

"Skyrail's commitment to planting trees in the World Heritage area to mark the occasion is a great initiative and I'm not surprised they have found a group of local content creators willing to help," he said. "These talented locals regularly share spectacular images of Tropical North Queensland and I look forward to seeing their interpretation of this special day."
