Elevated Railway is no Skyrail

Skyrail News: February 2016

The recent proposal to elevate sections of the railway line between Caulfield and Dandenong in Melbourne, Australia has generated some strong community debate which has also seen it misnamed as a "Skyrail" development. In fact the real Skyrail is the spectacular, multi-award winning Skyrail Rainforest Cableway tourist attraction in Cairns. The name "Skyrail" is a Registered Trademark of Skyrail Pty Ltd which owns the cableway but the company has no plans to develop anything in Melbourne and certainly not an elevated railway.

Developer of the real Skyrail, Dr Ken Chapman has suggested that "anyone who thinks the elevated railway proposal is a Skyrail needs to get up to Cairns and experience the real thing and I'm sure they won't make that mistake again" he said. Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is recognised as a world leader in environmentally sustainable tourism and recently celebrated 20 years of successful operation as the most popular tourist attraction in the Tropical North Queensland region. "This debate has created a bit of tension in Melbourne so it seems clear that a lot of people are really going to need a holiday. It’s time to get up to Cairns to relax and enjoy the fabulous reef and rainforest of Tropical North Queensland and of course the wonderful experience that is Skyrail Rainforest Cableway" said Dr Chapman.
