Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is open for business.


We have made some changes to our procedures to ensure that we help prevent the spread of COVID-19.


The safety, comfort and wellbeing of our guests and staff is paramount and we also want your rainforest experience to be as memorable and enjoyable as possible. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in assisting us to be COVID Safe and ask you to be kind and courteous to protect each other.


Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is following guidance from Queensland Health and we are operating in compliance with a Queensland Government Approved COVID Safe checklist. We are continuously reviewing Government advice and continue to adjust our COVID Safe practices based on Government direction.


To safeguard the health and well-being of our staff and guests, we have implemented some changes, these are ongoing and include:


  • Advance bookings and payment is required.
  • Registration via the ‘Check In Qld‘ app is a requirement of travel.*
  • Wearing a face mask at Skyrail is required when under State Health Department Direction.
  • Guests are required to meet COVID health and hygiene requirements.
  • We are cash-free. All purchases are via card only.
  • During peak periods, sharing of gondolas with other guests may be required. In off peak periods, for your enjoyment, exclusive gondola use is offered.
  • Our queuing and boarding zones allow for social distancing.
  • Guests will be asked to adhere to social distancing guidelines at all times.
  • Arrive at Skyrail no earlier than 15 minutes prior to your allocated boarding time.
  • Our staff will disinfect gondolas prior to guest boarding.
  • We have increased cleaning and sanitisation of our facilities and gondolas.
  • We encourage regular and thorough handwashing.
  • We have installed hand sanitiser stations for guests and staff use in public areas.
  • Focusing on disinfecting surfaces, handles, handrails, etc. in both public and staff areas.
  • We have installed additional signage containing hygiene advice and guidance.
  • All staff have completed COVID Safe training and are working hard to keep everyone safe.


For everyone’s safety if you feel unwell, please look after yourself, to look after us all and DO NOT travel. Contact our team and we can discuss options for postponement or cancellation.


We ask that you work together with us and seek further information on COVID-19 by visiting the Queensland Health website to ensure that we can maintain a safe environment for all guests and team members.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Advance bookings and payments are essential to avoid unnecessary contact, congestion, and to ensure that we adhere to distancing guidelines.

Please note; Guests will be permitted to enter the building no earlier than 15 minutes prior to their boarding time. This will allow us to board you whilst minimising waiting and queuing times.

What do I need to be aware of before booking my experience and visiting Skyrail Rainforest Cableway?

Prior to commencing your booking please ensure that you have read and understood the information provided on this page, to ensure that you are familiar with our COVID Safe requirements. Of particular importance is the COVID-19 Conditions of Carriage listed at the bottom of this page, including the necessity to register your visit via the Check In Qld app.


What restrictions are there for travel on Skyrail Rainforest Cableway?

To comply with social distancing guidelines guests are asked to maintain social distancing at all Stations and Terminals. In addition, restricted passenger capacity, modified queuing configurations, and the temporary closure of the CSIRO Rainforest Interpretation Centre at Barron Falls will ensure adherence to COVID Safe requirements.

Are Ranger Guided Tours at Red Peak still available?

Yes. Our Rangers will be present at Red Peak to provide information and rainforest interpretation on guided tours throughout the day. We remind guests to practice social distancing whilst enjoying the tour.

Are other businesses in Kuranda open?

We ask guests to be mindful of social distancing throughout their day in the ancient rainforest, Kuranda Village, and whilst at other attractions. Please check the restrictions in place at each business you visit during your experience.

COVID-19 Conditions of Carriage

Prior to booking and travel, please read the below conditions of carriage to assist us in keeping you safe during your visit and to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Travel on Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is subject to specific conditions of carriage to ensure compliance with our COVID Safe Checklist. It is a requirement of travel that you comply with Skyrail’s COVID Safe checklist conditions, failure to do so may result in the right of refusal of entry and travel.

All guests must adhere to the requirements as prescribed by Skyrail Rainforest Cableway’s COVID Safe Checklist including:

  • Not to attend Skyrail if you feel unwell in particular if you have any of the common COVID-19 symptoms.
  • To provide personal contact details as requested for contact tracing if required.
  • Registration via the ‘Check In Qld‘ app is a requirement of travel.*
  • Use hand sanitisation products provided upon entry and during your visit.
  • Practice good hygiene at all times during your visit.
  • Advise Skyrail staff immediately if you feel unwell during your visit.
  • Maintain minimum social distancing requirements.
  • Adhere to requirements as prescribed by our package partners and bus transfer service provider.


The Australian Government advises that some people are at greater risk of a more serious illness with COVID-19.
It is imperative that you understand the risk categories and determine whether travel on Skyrail is appropriate for your individual circumstances.

For those guests who identify themselves within the higher ‘at risk’ groups travel on Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is not recommended.


If you are comfortable to travel with us, we strongly recommend that you seek independent medical advice and consider the risk posed prior to travelling on Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and take additional safety precautions.

Travel poses increased health risks to you, therefore we cannot guarantee your safety with regard to exposure to COVID-19.


Health and Hygiene Notification


Guests should not travel, if, in the previous 14 days prior they have:

  • Returned to Australia from overseas (other than a safe travel zone country).
  • Been in close contact with an active COVID-19 case.
  • Been in a declared COVID-19 hotspot, place of concern or exposure venue, as defined by the Chief Health Officer.
  • Had a fever, cough, sore throat, headache, distorted sense of taste, shortness of breath, chills, vomiting or any cold/flu like symptoms in the last 72 hours.


* Check In Qld app. The Queensland Government has issued a Restriction on Businesses, Activities and Undertakings Direction under the Public Health Act 2005, requiring the electronic collection of contact/personal information.  The purpose of collecting this information is to assist authorities in tracing infections of COVID-19 if they occur. It is a requirement that all guests (as required by the Public Health Direction), register via the Check In Qld app and provide correct personal information as requested prior to travel on Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. In addition, any personal information will be retained within our systems and if requested, your information as provided to Skyrail will be released to health authorities.
